PCAA Roundup : Las Vegas Holds Off New Mexico State, 80-67

Armon Gilliam scored 21 points, and Anthony Jones added 19 Thursday night to lead Nevada Las Vegas to an 80-67 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over New Mexico State at Las Vegas.

Gilliam and Jones scored the first 17 points of the game for the conference-leading Rebels, who boosted their overall record to 21-3 and PCAA mark to 14-1. The Aggies dropped to 7-17 and 4-11.

The Aggies were led by Gilbert Wilburn with 27 points.

UNLV had a 39-26 lead with two minutes left in the first half and led, 41-33, at halftime. The Aggies trailed by only three points midway through the second half, but the Rebels pulled out to a 69-56 lead with just five minutes left.

Fresno State 76, Utah State 58--Reserve Brian Salone scored 18 points in the Bulldogs’ win at Fresno.

Salone scored 11 points in the second half to help the Bulldogs (18-6 overall and 13-2 in the conferrence) break open a close game. Greg Grant scored 13 of his team-high 15 points for Utah State (15-9 and 8-7).

Scott Barnes and Mitch Arnold each scored 16 points as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game, maintaining their hold on second place behind Nevada Las Vegas.

Fresno State Coach Boyd Grant became the school’s all-time victory leader with 174 wins. He has a 100-12 record at home.

Pacific 64, San Jose State 55--Forward Andy Franklin had 16 points to lead three Tiger scorers in double figures at Stockton.

Freshman Domingo Rosario scored 13, and Kyle Pepple had 11 for the Tigers, who are 9-16 overall and 5-11 in the conference.
