‘GREMLINS’ LEADS SATURN NOMINEES
“Gremlins,” the Steven Spielberg production about comically gruesome creatures, led the field of nominees for the Saturn Awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.
“Gremlins” pulled in nominations in nine categories Thursday, followed by the George Lucas production of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” which Spielberg directed, and “The Terminator” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, each with seven nominations.
“Gremlins” was nominated for best horror film, along with “Dreamscape,” “Firestarter,” “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “The Titan Find,” also known as “Creature.”
Nominees for best science-fiction film, in addition to “Terminator,” are “Dune,” “Starman,” “Star Trek III” and “2010.”
Best fantasy film nominees were “Indiana Jones,” “Ghostbusters,” “Greystoke,” “The Neverending Story” and “Splash.”
Twenty-six 1984 releases were nominated in all for the 12th annual Saturn Awards. The award ceremonies will be televised in April.
