2 School Bus Accidents Hurt 9; Only 1 Injury Proves Serious
Two school bus accidents in the San Fernando Valley injured nine people Friday, authorities reported. The only serious injury was to a man whose car collided with one of the buses.
In that accident, a car carrying two small children flipped over on a Sepulveda street at 7:30 a.m. after the collision with a minibus, which was taking three children to school.
The driver of the car, John Knight, 35, of Panorama City, and his two children, Jadan, 3, and Michael, 2, were taken by paramedics to Panorama Community Hospital after the accident at Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue, city fire spokesman Larry Ford said. The children were treated for scrapes. Knight was transferred to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment of a seriously injured thumb, a hospital spokesman said.
The school bus driver and three passengers, all students at Lowman Special Education Elementary School in North Hollywood, were unharmed, school district officials said.
In the second mishap, a telephone company repair van struck the rear end of a school bus at 10:30 a.m. as the bus was preparing to park at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, authorities said. The six occupants of the bus, all adult bus drivers, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The occupants of the bus were treated and released.
