PEN Will Induct Nine in Absentia
Norman Corwin, Kate Braverman and Malcolm Boyd will be guest speakers at the Los Angeles observance of International PEN Peace Day at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Augustine by the Sea Episcopal Church, 1227 4th St., Santa Monica.
Nine writers who are imprisoned in South Africa, the Soviet Union, the Philippines, South Korea, Uruguay, China and Vietnam will be formally inducted in absentia as honorary members of the Los Angeles center of PEN. There will be music by Owen Burdick, a harpsichordist with the baroque chamber group Musical Offering; David Sherr, and a performance by John West, director of Valyermo Dancers. The event is free.
