Irvine Man Appointed Development Assistant at UCI
Richard E. Matheny has been named associate vice chancellor for development at UC Irvine. He will work in the office of university advancement as chief officer for the UC Irvine Foundation, which raises money for university projects. Matheny is a resident of Irvine.
Greg Louganis, Olympic gold medalist, will be honored as Sportsman of the Year by CHOC Padrinos, the men’s support group at Childrens Hospital of Orange County. The award will be presented March 20 at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. Louganis is the second men’s diver to win the award. The first, Dr. Sammy Lee, will be at the event along with Tom and Ruth Wysocki, track and field athletes, and the Los Angeles Ram Cheerleaders.
Christy Jimmerson of El Dorado High School, Amy Connolly of Estancia High School and Lisa Lott of Mission Viejo High School were awarded the top three awards in the women’s monologue category at Chapman College’s 10th annual high school invitational Shakespeare Scene and Monologue Tournament.
Richard Kendall of Tustin was named Optometrist of the Year at the 1985 California Optometric Assn. Congress in Reno, Nev. He has been in practice since 1953.
Thomas H. Nielsen, president of The Irvine Co., was elected to the board of trustees for the City of Hope National Medical Center in Los Angeles. Nielsen also is a board member for the United Way of Orange County, Orange County YMCA Federation and Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Trustees for the Fullerton Library have appointed Kate Reeves to the board. Reeves, a Fullerton resident, is director of emergency nursing services for St. Joseph’s Hospital.
