BOSTON — There is more to Doug Flutie of Boston College and the New Jersey Generals than throwing a football 64 yards for a winning touchdown.
Flutie, who finished his collegiate career in 1984, is a National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame scholar-athlete. He also served as the Massachusetts spokesman for Students Against Drunk Driving and performed volunteer work with a variety of charities in Boston and throughout New England.
He directed a town youth-recreation program in Waltham, Mass., for two years and earned a commendation from the governor of the state.
