Bush Begins African Tour

KHARTOUM, Sudan — Vice President George Bush arrived in Khartoum today on a tour that will include the strategically located and war-torn nation of Sudan and two other drought-stricken African countries.
Bush was greeted at the airport by Vice President Omar al-Tayeb, Vice President Joseph Lagu and other senior Sudanese officials. In addition to Sudan, Bush is to visit Niger and Mali, one of the world’s poorest nations, before going on to Geneva to address a U.N. conference on the African famine March 11.
