Culver City High School athletes dominated All-Ocean League basketball and soccer teams selected by league coaches.
In boys soccer, Culver senior fullback Raul Pena was named the league’s player of the year, and his twin, Carlos, was named the first-team goalie. Their brother, junior halfback Daniel, was also selected on the first team along with Culver teammates Manuel Rubio, a senior forward; senior halfback Gary Filtzanidis and senior fullback Jack Nick. Scott Bushman, Beverly Hills senior fullback, also made the first team.
In girls basketball, Culver seniors Shari Netzel, a forward, and Lynn Richardson, guard-forward, were named the Ocean League players of the year, and Stacey Schipper, a senior center, was named to the league’s first team.
In boys basketball, Beverly Hills senior forward Kenny Countryman was selected as the league’s outstanding player, and Culver’s Jason Woodruff, a senior center, and Marvin Nelson, a junior guard, were named to the first team.
Dr. Max Susal of West Los Angeles scored a hole in one on the 145-yard eighth hole at Penmar Golf Course. Susal used a six iron on the par-three hole.
