POINT LOMA, Calif. — Mark Ban drove in four runs with a single and a home run Friday as Cal State Northridge defeated Point Loma College, 7-1. John Larosa improved his record to 3-0 with the complete-game victory.
“He was in complete control all the way,” said CSUN Coach Terry Craven after the Matadors improved their overall mark to 14-5.
Larosa struck out nine in the win. He got one Point Loma player four times.
Ban’s eighth home run of the season came on a three-run shot in the seventh inning. Freshman third baseman John Balfanz added a three-run blast in the fourth inning for Cal State Northridge, which plays host to U.S. International University today in a double-header at noon.
“We hoped to have a better effort than we did at the beginning of the season against Point Loma,” Craven said of an earlier 6-5 victory.
“I think the team is recognizing that no matter who they’re playing they have to come out there and give a good effort. They did that today,” the first-year head coach added.
