Fifty Six Ina Row recovered from a bumping match with heavily favored Precisionist and finished gamely to win the $76,150 Potrero Grande Handicap Saturday at Santa Anita.

Precisionist, meanwhile, dropped back in the stretch under Chris McCarron to end up last in the field of six.

Ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr., Fifty Six Ina Row finished a head in front of Hula Blaze, ridden by Pat Valenzuela. Coyotero, ridden by Bill Shoemaker, finished third, another 1 1/2 lengths back.

Covering 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15 2/5, Fifty Six Ina Row earned $44,650 in winning the second stakes of his career. Trained by Irv Guiney, Fifty Six Ina Row won a division of last year’s National Sprint Championship at Hollywood Park.

Sent off the second-longest shot in the race, Fifty Six Ina Row paid $24, $10.80 and $6.60. Hula Blaze returned $6.60 and $4.80, and Coyotero paid $5.20 to show.

Precisionist, sent off the 4-5 favorite, raced in contention early but drifted in to bump the winner at the top of the stretch and flattened out in the final furlong.

Precisionist became the fourth horse to sweep the Strub Series for 4-year-olds in his last three races, but was not entered in the $500,000 Santa Anita Handicap last Sunday because of a cough.
