Lawmakers See No Tax Plan Changes Before Jan. 1

WASHINGTON — The heads of the congressional tax-writing committees say no changes in any tax overhaul plan passed this year would take effect before Jan. 1.
Seeking to remove uncertainty that might cloud investors’ decisions, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Bob Packwood (R-Ore.), said Friday that no new tax provision would take effect retroactively.
