Two wooden hangars built during World War II will be demolished during renovation work at Santa Monica Airport, according to airport director Henry Dittmar.
The hangars were constructed as decoys to confuse Japanese fighter pilots about the location of a Douglas aircraft plant on the other side of the airfield, Dittmar said.
The site will be used for an administrative center and a new hangar.
An environmental impact review recommended against restoration of the deteriorating 40-year-old structures that lack ramps leading from the hangar doors to the runway.
