From a Times Staff Writer
OXNARD — A commercial airline pilot, his wife and his mother-in-law died early Thursday when a fire roared through the couple’s two-story house in Oxnard Shores, officials reported.
William Gribble, 50, a pilot for American Airlines; his wife, Susan Gribble, 48, and her mother, Helene Gause, 80, of the San Diego area, died of smoke inhalation in the fire in the 5200 block of Seabreeze Way.
Oxnard city fire investigators said the blaze apparently was caused by cigarette butts smoldering in a wastepaper basket.
