Five Mountain View high-tech companies are not moving fast enough to clean up one of the largest water-poisoning chemical leaks in the Silicon Valley, state officials said. The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board is trying to prod the five companies into speeding up efforts to remove toxic industrial solvents that leaked from the plants and contaminated ground water. The firms involved are Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corp., Intel Corp., Raytheon Corp., NEC Electronics and Siltec Corp. “It’s one of the largest leaks in the area” and is “on top of the priority list” for the regional board, said Don Dalke, the toxic cleanup chief for the state agency.
