ANAHEIM : Mobile Home Resident Dies in Pre-Dawn Fire
A 70-year-old woman died Sunday morning when flames, apparently ignited by a cigarette, consumed her mobile home, Anaheim fire spokesmen said.
The body of Betty Mitchell was found lying on a couch after the fire had been extinguished, said Sheri Erlewine, Anaheim city public information officer. Mitchell apparently lived alone in the double-wide mobile home on Park Vista Street, Erlewine said.
Firefighters were called about 4:30 a.m. and the blaze was extinguished 20 minutes later, said fire dispatcher Linda Shaffer. Four engine companies and one truck company battled the blaze, she said.
The fire caused $40,000 damage to the structure and $10,000 damage to its contents, Erlewine said.
