JONATHAN BASS CONCERT MIXUP
The USC School of Music played unwitting host to an amateur hour Sunday as about 150 people waited in vain for pianist Jonathan Bass to show up for a scheduled 8 p.m. recital.
On Monday morning, USC officials explained that the apparent cancellation of Bass’ appearance had not been conveyed to the university.
At the Hancock Auditorium gathering, those in attendance were told by freshman music student Darrin Degenhardt that Bass had not arrived. Then Degenhardt sat down at the piano and played two pieces. A half-hour after the scheduled curtain, Degenhardt suggested that everyone go home. While members of the audience straggled out, another young pianist walked on stage and played.
