John J. McCabe, general manager of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner since 1983, has been named the paper’s chief operating executive.

McCabe’s appointment came in the wake of the resignation last week of Publisher Francis L. Dale, who has been named commissioner of the Major Indoor Soccer League. While a successor to Dale has not been named, McCabe will supervise all newspaper operations, which was previously done by the publisher.
