NBA Roundup : Fields Scores Career-High 21 as Bucks Beat King-Less Knicks

Sidney Moncrief scored 23 points, and reserve Kenny Fields added a career-high 21 Monday night, powering the Milwaukee Bucks to a 126-106 victory over the New York Knicks at Milwaukee.

The Knicks were playing their first game without injured Bernard King. The leading scorer in the NBA with a 32.9 average, King earlier in the day in New York underwent arthroscopic surgery for torn ligaments and cartilage in his right knee that will sideline him for the season.

If King goes on the injured list, he will join Bill Cartwright, Marvin Webster and Truck Robinson. Cartwright and Robinson were starters last season.

The Bucks scored the first seven points, held a 41-23 lead after one quarter and were never threatened in winning their third straight game and 11th in a row at home.

Ernie Grunfeld scored 30 points for the Knicks, and Trent Tucker added 23.

Kansas City 121, Seattle 106--Larry Drew scored 23 points, rookie Otis Thorpe added 22 and the Kings won their fifth straight game by turning back the SuperSonics at Kansas City.

Drew also had 14 assists as Kansas City won for the 10th time in its last 13 games.

After a first half that saw 14 lead changes and 13 ties and ended with the score tied, 59-59, the SuperSonics edged ahead, 70-67, on a pair of free throws by Tim McCormick with 8:17 left to play in the third period.

However, Kansas City, sparked by Thorpe’s eight points, outscored Seattle, 26-10, during the remainder of the period to grab a 93-80 lead.

The Sonics didn’t get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
