Commercial Diver Drowns as Boat Propeller Cuts Hose
A commercial diver drowned Tuesday when his air hose was accidentally cut by the propeller of a passing boat while he was working 30 feet below the ocean’s surface off El Segundo.
Los Angeles County lifeguards said Jim Workman, 29, of San Pedro was about a quarter of a mile offshore when the line tender on his boat discovered that the air hose had been cut.
Lifeguards found Workman on the ocean floor, and he was pronounced dead at Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital in Marina del Rey.
