MARCH QUITS HBO PREMIERE FILMS POST
Donald March resigned Wednesday as senior vice president of HBO Premiere Films. The unexpected move came just 14 months after March joined Home Box Office Inc. as executive in charge of original made-for-pay-TV movies.
March said he is leaving the company to pursue other creative opportunities.
“I know we have achieved something special for HBO viewers,” he said in a printed announcement issued by March personally and not by HBO. “But now I’d like to move on to other challenges.”
The announcement also quoted HBO Chairman Michael Fuchs wishing March “great success in his new endeavors.” Fuchs said that March’s successor would be named shortly.
March, a former CBS Television program executive and president of CBS Theatrical Films, joined HBO on Jan. 3, 1984, after the Century City-based Premiere Films division had suffered through months of internal turmoil. His predecessor in the job, Jane Dekantel, was fired after disagreements with Fuchs over the operation of the unit.
During his brief tenure, March supervised 12 HBO original motion pictures, including “Sakharov” and “Finnegan Begin Again.”
