Group Honors Supervisor Wieder as a Woman of Achievement

The Far West Region Woman of Achievement Award was presented to Harriett M. Wieder by Women in Communications Inc. (WICI). The award is given annually to women of distinction and influence by WICI, a 12,000-member national organization dedicated to promoting quality and excellence in the communications industry. Wieder, chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, was honored with six other West Region winners.

G. Maxine Paterson was named assistant director of the Chapman College Enterprise Institute, an organization that sponsors programs promoting free enterprise. Preston, president of the Orange County chapter of Executive Women International, has worked for Chapman since 1979, with the school’s board of trustees and in the president’s office.

Dr. Frank Largent was appointed director of UC Irvine’s newly created executive master of business administration program. The part-time program allows executives to receive further management training while continuing their careers. Largent, former president of Western Library Services and chief of the Bureau of National Defense Education Administration in California, was director of a similar program at Pepperdine University and has extensive public and private administrative experience.

Fred Schram will be coordinator for the American Institute for Foreign Study’s 1985 summer exchange program in Irvine. Schram, an instructor at Irvine High School, is seeking host families for 30 high school students from Japan who will be visiting Irvine for three weeks to study English. Those interested in hosting a student this summer should contact Schram at 855-4849.

Henry Yee was appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the California State Board of Accountancy. Yee, a certified public accountant, will join six other CPAs and six public members on the 13-member board. Yee is president of the Asian American Republicans of Orange County and a member of the Chinese-American CPA Society of Southern California and the National Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce.
