Abortion rights activists said they will independently investigate a suspicious fire that swept the Hollywood Feminist Women’s Health Center. Carol Downer, a spokesman for the Pro Choice Defense Center, said the group is already raising money nationwide for the project. Several women’s rights activists told reporters in front of the burned-out building at 6411 Hollywood Blvd. that arson investigators had told them virtually nothing about the fire, which roared through the office and an adjacent restaurant three weeks ago. Laura K. Brown of the Feminist Women’s Health Centers of California said insurance companies were canceling the group’s insurance and landlords were afraid to rent space to the women.
