State Department and Pentagon officials either refused comment or expressed skepticism about a report in Aerospace Daily that Israel has begun deploying nuclear-armed Jericho II intermediate-range ballistic missiles on erector-launcher trucks in the Negev Desert and Golan Heights. An Israeli Embassy official in Washington denied that his country has nuclear missiles. There have been previous reports that Israel may have nuclear weapons, but this was the first published report that such weapons have been deployed.
