Smiling, Silent Denis Thatcher 70 Today

LONDON — Denis Thatcher, who says “love and loyalty” sustain him through the burdens of being married to a prime minister, turned 70 today and posed for photos arm-in-arm with his wife in the garden at No. 10 Downing St.
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s husband, a retired oil company executive, smiled broadly but said hardly a word as his wife, 59, guided photographers through the garden for birthday photos under a magnolia tree.
