The new superintendent of the Escondido Union High School District will be John Cooper, currently the district’s assistant superintendent for instruction.
School board members selected Cooper this week from a field of 70 applicants to succeed Forest Fouts, who previously announced his retirement after seven years as superintendent of the 5,500-student district.
Cooper, 42, has worked for the district for six years, and will be paid about $58,000 a year when he assumes the top staff post on Aug. 1.
