Reporting of Molestation Charges
I realize that you have a professional duty to inform the public about newsworthy events. However, I am deeply disturbed about the article “Mayor Pro Tem Faces Molestation Charges” (May 2).
Obviously, from the statements in your article, the Michael Beverage family has conflicts. Since Mr. Beverage has not yet been arraigned, and since molestation charges are so serious, wouldn’t it have been fairer to have withheld this story until arraignment actually occurred?
We have had several tragic cases recently in which people’s lives have been seriously affected by easily made molestation charges. You would be doing everyone concerned a favor if you waited until such cases actually come to trial before reporting them.
