San Diego Prep Track : Norris Returns to Win 100, Places Second in 200
SAN DIEGO — El Camino High School’s Darron Norris made his long-awaited return to the track Saturday at the Avocado League track and field finals at Mira Costa College and won the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200. After missing two weeks with the chicken pox, Norris won the 100 in 10.8 and led the 200 until he was run down by San Pasqual’s Mike Schroeder in the final 50 meters. Both were clocked at 22.7.
Oceanside produced two double winners Saturday. Dwayne Jeffers won the long jump (21-6) and triple jump (45-6 3/4). Jeffers’ teammate Terry Herron won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.5 and the 300-meter low hurdles in 38.6.
Herron lowered his personal best in the highs from 14.8 and is expected to contend with San Dieguito’s Travis Knox and Saint Augustine’s Jay Taylor for the San Diego Section titles in both hurdle events.
