Community College Tennis : Saddleback Wins Team Title at Southern California Regionals

The Saddleback College men’s tennis team edged Pierce College by one point Saturday in the Southern California Regionals at Irvine Racquet Club, although the Brahmas earned both the individual singles and doubles titles.
Saddleback earned 20 points, followed by Pierce with 19, Grossmont with 12, Harbor with 9 and Long Beach and San Diego Mesa with 8 points each.
In the singles finals, Pierce’s Jonas Wallgard defeated Pat Crow of Long Beach, 6-4, 6-2. The Pierce doubles team of Wallgard and Leo Valencia beat Saddleback’s Michael Racuya and John Rusk, 6-2, 6-2, in the final match.
Saddleback will send Todd West and Racuya to compete in the state singles tournament. The doubles teams of Racuya and Rusk, and West and Dana Bozeman also qualified for the state tournament, scheduled to begin Wednesday at Chabot College.
