Poway
A Poway man who was convicted on an extortion charge involving a man who was killed during an attempt to collect a drug debt was sentenced Monday to two years in state prison.
Johnny Bond, 37, was sentenced by San Diego Superior Court Judge Daniel Kremer, who also fined him $500.
The actual killer, Robert Skierkiewicz, 25, of Redlands, was sentenced Monday to eight years in state prison and fined $1,000. Skierkiewicz pleaded guilty April 15 to voluntary manslaughter.
Bond and Robert (Cannonball) Robinson, 24, of San Diego, both pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit extortion last month involving the Dec. 22, 1984, incident.
On that day, Nazree Burton, 24, of Mira Mesa was shot in the head at a house on Black Mountain Road in Mira Mesa; he died Dec. 24. The men had gone to Burton’s house to collect a narcotics debt Burton owed Bond, and it was believed that Bond hired the other two to help him get the money.
“You had extortion in your heart and a gun in your hand,” the judge told Skierkiewicz.
Skierkiewicz’s attorney, Alex Landon, said financial pressures led to the extortion, while he maintained that the shooting was “a tragic accident” and not planned.
Robinson’s sentencing was delayed until June 10, and he could face three years in prison.
