Mobutu and Peres Talk About Trade
JERUSALEM — President Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire held talks Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres on aid and trade possibilities between the two countries.
A Peres spokesman said the two leaders discussed what further agricultural, scientific and military aid Israel could offer Zaire as well as potential joint economic ventures. A bilateral committee will meet this week under Israeli Finance Minister Yitzhak Modai to examine investment opportunities in Zaire, the spokesman said.
Out of 28 black African nations that severed ties with Israel after the 1973 Middle East War, only Zaire and Liberia have restored them.
