A 20-year-old “mountain man” faces a possible penalty of more than 10 years in prison after a jury in Virginia City, Mont., convicted him of kidnaping and wounding a woman athlete who he hoped would live with him in the Montana wilderness. Dan Nichols was convicted in Kari Swenson’s abduction in July from a mountain jogging trail, but was found innocent of deliberate homicide of shooting to death a man seeking to rescue her. His father, Don Nichols, 54, is expected to stand trial this summer on the same charges.
