One man was killed early Thursday morning in a vehicle fire in the 4600 block of Pacific Highway, fire officials reported. According to authorities, B.J. McCrakin, 42, of the 2100 block of San Diego Avenue, fell asleep while smoking in the cab of a friend’s pickup truck. Deputy Coroner Chuck Bolton said the truck’s owner, Dalton Meek, who had been sleeping in the camper portion of the truck, was awakened by smoke and fire. Meek was uninjured.
