Huntington Beach : Portfolio ’85 to Raise Funds for Gallery Wing
One of the biggest social events of the year in Orange County’s third-largest city is Portfolio ‘85, an annual fund-raiser for fine arts set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Beach Library’s Information and Cultural Resources Center.
More than 100 works of art have been donated for the event. Holders of “patron” tickets automatically will get the opportunity to pick the object of their choice as their names are chosen in a random drawing.
Works of art in the drawing include--but are not limited to--paintings, sculptures and reliefs. Patron tickets cost $100 and include champagne, a light supper, entertainment and a preview of the artworks. “Donor” tickets, available for $15, entitle holders to everything but the drawing.
Proceeds will go toward construction of a gallery wing at the Cultural Resources Center in Central Park. Plans call for a concert auditorium.
The affair is sponsored by the Arts Associates, a private group of artists working closely with the city’s Allied Arts Board to bring fine art and cultural events to Huntington Beach.
The board last year sponsored 13 individual exhibits at the center, as well as eight group shows and nine concerts. The board also hosted 14 art openings and a weeklong international art workshop highlighted by contributions from artists from Mexico City and Guadalajara.
The Cultural Resources Center--designed by world-renowned architect Richard Neutra--is at 7111 Talbert Ave. near Golden West Street. For more information, call 898-6843.
