27 Rebels Reported Killed

MANILA — Government troops backed by armored vehicles and helicopter gunships repulsed a force of 150 Communist rebels, killing 27 of them, officials said Thursday. They said the guerrillas of the New People’s Army struck at a 22-man army detachment about 650 miles south of Manila. The soldiers held their ground until helicopter gunships and armored vehicles arrived.
