KCBS (Channel 2) announced Friday that it will carry Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference final series between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers Sunday at 10 a.m. PDT.
Program director Jay Strong had to get special permission from CBS and the National Basketball Assn. Other West Coast stations and Denver CBS affiliate KMGH-TV will get only the 3 p.m. PDT Laker-Nugget playoff game, while the rest of the country will get only the Celtic-76er game.
“Because we had the time and because of the interest in the result in Southern California, CBS made an exception and will permit us to carry the game,” said Channel 2 spokeswoman Andi Sporkin. “We are excited and surprised and didn’t expect it to happen.”
Channel 2 had planned to show a 1974 movie, “Hurricane,” starring Larry Hagman, at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Game 3 of the Celtic-76er series will be televised at 12:30 p.m. today on Channel 2.
