CLOSING NOTICE--Most candid press release of the week, from the Laemmle Theatres group: “Due to lack of public interest, the remaining programs for the Neil Simon Festival have been canceled.”
The festival, which opened six weeks ago and closed last weekend, was to have continued each weekend morning at 11 a.m. through June 30 at the Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica. Simon attended the opening and “was thrilled,” said Phyllis de Picciotto, an independent film exhibitor who produces the festivals jointly with the Laemmle chain.
It was her first closing in some 75 successful retrospectives, she said.
