The more than 80% reduction in injuries and losses involving blazes caused by fireworks during the last four years “can be directly related to this department’s anti-fireworks campaign,” a Los Angeles City Fire Department captain told the city Fire Commission. An even bigger campaign against fireworks is planned for the upcoming Fourth of July, Capt. Michael S. Fulmis said. Campaign tactics to push this year’s theme--”There is nothing cool about fireworks”--will include donated ads and billboards, handbills, television and radio spots, posters and other media aids, Fulmis said.
