ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Gov. Harry Hughes today issued an executive order giving people with deposits in Maryland’s privately insured savings and loans a little more access to their money beginning Thursday.
The order authorizes a few exemptions to the $1,000-per-account monthly limit on withdrawals imposed by Hughes last week to stem a run on deposits in 102 thrifts. Exempted depositors include those who opened escrow accounts for special reasons, such as buying a new home, and businesses unable to meet payrolls.
