SDSU’s MacGregor Wins NCAA Qualifier

San Diego State’s Cinny MacGregor defeated Marie Newton of UC Davis, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), in the qualifying round of the NCAA individual women’s tennis tournament Monday at Stillwater, Okla.
The victory sends MacGregor into an opening round match today against Pepperdine’s Pam Jung. Elsewhere today, SDSU’s Linda Howell, seeded fifth in the singles draw, will take on Jan Martin of Florida. The second round of the singles tournament will also be played today.
