Irwindale

The California Energy Commission staff and Pacific Waste Management Corp. will conduct a public workshop at 9:30 a.m. May 30 at Irwindale City Hall to review technical information needed before Pacific Waste Management can win commission approval to build a waste-to-energy plant in an Irwindale quarry. The workshop will focus on the commission staff’s request for information on subjects ranging from engineering geology and water quality to socioeconomics. Prospective workshop participants should call Ernesto Perez, the commission’s public adviser, at (800) 822-6228. The Irwindale Resource Recovery Authority, a joint powers agency created by the city of Irwindale and its redevelopment agency, has sold $395 million in bonds to help Pacific Waste, a private company, build a plant that would generate electrical power by burning 3,000 tons of trash a day.
