Knife-Wielding Robber Slain
Faced with a robber wielding a large butcher knife, a middle-aged man with Special Forces training grabbed the exposed blade and shot and killed his assailant in a violent struggle in Wilmington early today, police said.
Lt. Larry Kallestad said the intended holdup victim will not be charged in the shooting at the Hall Trucking Co. The man, whose identity was withheld because of possible retaliation, suffered cuts on both hands. The dead suspect was identified as Darrell Lee Wade, 28, of Long Beach. His younger brother, Donald Jeron Wade, was later arrested by Long Beach authorities.
