Cal Poly Pomona Wins in Softball World Series; No-Hitter for Nebraska
OMAHA — All-American pitcher Rhonda Wheatley hit a two-run homer to help lead Cal Poly Pomona to a 6-3 victory over Northwestern Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Softball World Series. The win lifted Cal Poly Pomona’s record to 51-16.
In the second game, Nebraska’s Lori Sippel pitched a no-hitter as the Cornhuskers defeated Louisiana Tech, 6-0. Nebraska is 36-9.
Tonight, Nebraska will meet Cal Poly Ponoma in the second game of a winner’s-bracket doubleheader. Top-ranked Cal State Fullerton plays No. 4 UCLA in the opener.
