And to Top It All Off, Steve Howe Now Says He’s Treated Unfairly

I’m really tired of reading how pressure forced Steve Howe into doing drugs. He says if he doesn’t perform well on the mound he won’t keep his job. Is this circumstance unique to him? Isn’t anyone who works, in any capacity, under the microscope?

And now to top things off, he wants to test the free-agency market because he feels the Dodgers have not been fair with him. Do the Dodgers, and especially baseball, need this attitude?

I mean, Steve is still young, makes about $350,000 a year, works about 20 hours a week, travels the USA for free, is given over $50 a day for meal money and receives the best medical attention money can buy. This is pressure? This is unfair?

Perhaps Mr. Howe would like to trade places with me. I’m in my mid-40s, earn about 90% less a year than he does, make outrageous mortgage payments, work over 50 hours a week, rarely travel anywhere, and am trying to stay even with inflation while rearing a family, which is just about impossible. I’m afraid Steve doesn’t know what pressure or being fair really is.

I wish the Dodgers would release this admitted coke-snorting doper and let him join the real world. This might make two things happen: It might allow the Dodgers to join the pennant race, and Steve Howe to join the human race.
