Adoption Guild Doubles Play Starts Today
Former pro Ross Case and Corona del Mar High sophomore Mike Briggs will defend their men’s open division championship in the 24th annual Adoption Guild Doubles tennis tournament starting today at seven sites in Orange County.
Case, a former Wimbledon and Australian Open doubles champion, and Briggs, ranked No. 1 in his age group in Southern California, head a field of nearly 600 doubles teams entered in 17 divisions.
Among those playing in the amateur tournament will be UC Irvine tennis Coach Greg Patton, World Team Tennis veterans Jerry Van Linge and Tom Leonard, UC Irvine players Bruce Man Son Hing and Ken Derr, and former national mixed doubles champions Dick and Gretchen Miller.
Elimination rounds will be played today through Monday at the Balboa Bay, John Wayne, Newport Beach, Irvine, Mesa Verde, Marriott and Palisades clubs.
The final rounds, June 1-2, will be played at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.
