NCAA Division II Baseball : Cal Poly Pomona Opens With Win
Cal Poly Pomona got three home runs, including the game-winner from junior Marty Rivero with nobody on in the bottom of the seventh, to defeat the University of New Haven, 6-5, Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division II baseball playoffs at Montgomery, Ala.
John Love and Tom Weeks both homered in the third inning to give Pomona (37-27-1) a 3-1 lead. Love tied the school record of 13 for home runs in a season. The next batter, Tom Scaletta doubled, and Weeks, a sophomore, followed by sending Mark Hatje’s pitch over the fence in right-center.
