The unidentified body of teen-age girl whose throat was slashed with a machete or hatchet-type weapon was found early Monday morning beside a bike trail north of 17th Street in Santa Ana, police said.
The body was that of a Latino between 14 and 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 and about 105 pounds. No identification was found, Santa Ana Police Lt. David Salazar said.
The body was found by a passer-by at about 6 a.m. on the trail next to the Santa Ana River bed, he said.
The victim had been struck on the neck and face with a sharp, heavy instrument and “apparently cut several times” with what was “probably a hatchet or a machete,” Salazar said.
The teen-ager was wearing blue jeans and a white long-sleeve sweatshirt with an Olympic decal.
