A security guard was shot to death, apparently by thieves trying to steal electronic equipment from semi-trailers parked at a Paramount freight company. A second security guard escaped uninjured in the incident at Rapid Freight Systems Co. at 7701 Rosecrans Ave., Lakewood Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Aguirre said. Gary Kuhns, 31, of Long Beach, was shot once in the face and once in the body, Aguirre said. Two suspects reportedly chased the second security guard to a residential area, where he had people call authorities, Aguirre said. Police dogs searched the area but were unable to turn up the suspects.
