Montgomery Ward may sell Jefferson Ward.

Chicago-based Montgomery Ward said it has hired the New York investment firm of Salomon Bros. to review the possible sale of its 44-store Jefferson Ward discount chain. Jefferson Ward, which is based in Miami, operates stores in the East and South. Mobil, parent of Montgomery Ward, disclosed earlier this month that it would eventually spin off the entire retail operation into an independent, free-standing firm.
