Zoo’s Sheepshearing Exhibition Demonstrates an Old Tradition

More than 1,000 spectators turned out to view the Santa Ana Zoo’s fourth annual sheepshearing. During the three-hour educational exhibition, held in the zoo’s ITT Cannon Amphitheatre, professional sheepshearer Don Paulson demonstrated his technique withfor to the largely student audience.
A highlight of the demonstration was provided by the husband-and-wife weaving team of Roy and Jacque Geier, who showed the students how to transform the raw fleece into refined wool yarn through carding and spinning the fibers.
