Braniff Inc. reported net income of $1.6 million for its fiscal quarter ended April 30. This quarterly profit is in sharp contrast to the net loss of $30.6 million reported by the Dallas-based carrier for the like period a year ago when it commenced service. Braniff President Ron Ridgeway said the first-quarter earnings were the result of a combination of cost reduction programs and the growing success of the carrier’s new long-haul, unrestricted low-fare marketing strategy which was initiated last fall.
